HMT has endeavoured to meet the critical hitech sector’s machining needs by providing hitech production systems with automation, offering complete manufacturing solutions to the customer. The SBCNC 60 CNC Slant Bed Turning Center with Gantry Automation is one such example where HMT has designed and developed such a hi-technology system for production of critical and complex components. This production system can effectively meet a number of other medium and large sized machining applications.

The Gantry Automation System is built around HMT’s robust CNC Slant Bed Turning Center for automatic loading, unloading and machining of the component. Conceived on a portal frame concept, the super structure of the gantry is on columns on either ends of this hi-tech turning center. The horizontal beam provides the longitudinal movement required and the vertical module provides the vertical motion. A gripper attached to the vertical module with hydraulically operated dual finger grips the component of up to 200 kg weight firmly. The system is provided with a pallet table with capacity to store up to 8 components. The system can be programmed for automatic cycle of loading, unloading and complete machining operations of all the 8 components without manual intervention. The operations performed in the first set-up are OD taper turning, internal threading and deep hole boring on a profile end and end operations performed on reversed component – step turning, band turning and length correction to complete machining in the second set-up.
